Seven days that changed how they see the world
In June 2023, our program leaders welcomed participants at Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica — the start of a 7-day S.T.E.A.M. journey across farms, beaches, and a new culture.
Chapter One
Kickoff
Planting papaya at Monkey Park farm
At the Monkey Park Foundation organic farm in Huacas, chaperone Sherri Settles and participant Alivia Taylor planted papaya and learned soil conservation — hands-on work tied to UN SDG 15: Life on Land.
In pairs, the girls learned to plant seedlings from local soil conservationists — collaboration and stewardship in action.
Chaperones Traci Greenleaf and Sherri Settles take a well-earned break from the farm work.
Natural juices served in plastic bags — a small moment that sparked big conversations about culture.
She left with a newfound dream of owning her own farm and growing her own organic food.
