Frequently asked questions

Everything families ask before a participant joins a Black Girls Go Global S.T.E.A.M. program. Still have a question? The form above goes straight to our team.

The minimum duration of a program is 7 days.
All Black Girls Go Global STEAM educational programs are designed for groups of at least six (6) participants and at least one chaperone/educator. Participants must be interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) and in Grades 9–12.
No. We believe that girls gain a different and positive experience in learning with their peers.
Yes. A girl can complete the application early and participate in the program when she reaches the 9th grade.
The majority cost of the program is covered for every participant. However, participants are expected to cover the costs of passport fees and help raise funds. Each participant is required to raise a minimum of $500 to help offset program costs.
Absolutely! Black Girls Go Global makes safety our first priority. While traveling, students will either be with BGGG program leaders, in groups, or assigned to a chaperone … but never alone. Our student/chaperone ratio is 2:1.
All chaperones have worked with girls; have been through an interview process; and are selected by partner schools or program leaders.
Participants are housed in groups in safe, clean, secure accommodations.
Nutritious, locally-grown and prepared foods are provided three times per day. In some locations, meals are eaten at pre-selected restaurants. When completing the application, we inquire about specific food restrictions or allergies and take special care to accommodate the dietary needs of all participants.
Participants are provided access to unlimited, safe, bottled water.
Participants will travel in passenger buses or 14-passenger vans. Vehicles used are safe, insured, well-maintained and operated by licensed drivers.
Each participant is covered by supplemental, international, medical insurance and emergency evacuation insurance.
Our program leaders are experienced working with young girls and have an expansive knowledge of the host community. They have established relationships in the area with medical professionals and facilities.
Black Girls Go Global is committed to making this an affordable experience. Our S.T.E.A.M. educational programs have averaged $3,000 per participant. Other similar programs cost between $5,000 and $7,000 and doesn't include airfare. Participants and parents can fundraise through letter campaigns, GoFundMe, garage sales, etc.

The participant costs for Black Girls Go Global includes …
  • Roundtrip airfare
  • S.T.E.A.M. education program and supplies costs
  • On-site, trained U.S. program leader
  • On-site, trained bilingual host country program leader
  • All on-site transportation
  • Shared lodging
  • Cultural and recreational activities
  • Three (3) meals a day
  • Travel insurance
  • Costs of passport fees
  • Facial masks, hand sanitizer, etc.
While program contributions allow us to fund all in-country expenses, it does not cover:
  • Any applicable baggage-handling fees imposed by airlines
  • Reciprocity fees or any other fees associated with entry or exit from a particular destination
  • Extra beverages and snacks outside of the three daily meals
  • Any personal souvenirs and gifts
  • Expenses caused by airline rescheduling, cancellations, or delays caused by the airlines, bad weather, or any other event or circumstances beyond BGGG's control
If a program is cancelled for reasons beyond the control of Black Girls Go Global, any deposits or monies contributed to the program will be considered a program donation.
  • If the group falls below six (6) participants
  • If the program funds are not raised
  • If the U.S. State Department issues a travel advisory
