Our mission

To empower and inspire the next generation of Black women in S.T.E.A.M.

A visionary, Black woman-led organization

Black Girls Go Global (BGGG) is dedicated to breaking down the racial and gender disparities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.). Our mission is clear: to ensure that every Black girl who dreams of a career in S.T.E.A.M. has the opportunity, access, and support to thrive.

We believe in building a future where innovation and progress reflect the voices and brilliance of all communities — and where global solutions are inclusive, equitable, and accessible to everyone.

A note from our founder

As a lifelong advocate for women and girls — and as the proud mother of two young Black adults — I have spent much of my life believing in the limitless potential that exists within our communities when opportunity, exposure, and encouragement meet preparation.

Black Girls Go Global was born from both purpose and possibility.

As I entered what I proudly call the fourth quarter of my life, I became intentional about how I wanted to invest my time, energy, and legacy. I knew I wanted to create something meaningful that would open doors for the next generation of Black girls — especially in spaces where they have historically been underrepresented and too often overlooked.

That is why Black Girls Go Global exists.

We are committed to exposing Black girls to the power and possibilities of S.T.E.A.M. — Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics — while expanding their worldview and helping them see themselves as global citizens. We believe learning should extend beyond textbooks and classrooms. Through immersive experiences, cultural exchange, innovation, and hands-on discovery, we create opportunities for girls to imagine bigger, think globally, and lead boldly.

Representation matters. Access matters. Exposure matters.

When we invest in Black girls, we invest in innovation. We invest in leadership. We invest in stronger communities and a brighter future for all of us.

My hope is that every girl who engages with Black Girls Go Global walks away knowing that her voice matters, her ideas belong, and the world is not only available to her — it is waiting for her.

Peacefully,

Alma Garcia

Empowering change

The codes we live by

S.T.E.A.M. Empowerment

We are committed to breaking barriers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics for Black girls. We cultivate confidence, curiosity, and creativity through educational programs rooted in real-world impact.

Global Citizenship

We believe in the power of travel to transform perspectives. By experiencing the world, we foster empathy, cultural understanding, and a sense of responsibility to communities near and far.

Education As Liberation

We believe education is a tool for freedom and equity. Our programs integrate global awareness and academic excellence to create future leaders and changemakers.

Leadership & Legacy

We develop leaders who lead with integrity, purpose, and vision. Each girl is encouraged to see herself as a trailblazer creating change for generations to come.

Representation Matters

We center Black girls in every narrative we shape. We believe in the importance of seeing yourself reflected in the world — especially in spaces where we’ve historically been underrepresented.

Community & Sisterhood

We thrive together. We create safe, supportive spaces where Black girls uplift each other, share stories, and build lifelong bonds through shared experiences and global exploration.

My daughter came home from Black Girls Go Global standing taller. She talks about engineering now like it's hers to claim — and she's surrounded by girls who see the same thing in themselves. This program didn't just teach her S.T.E.A.M.; it showed her she belongs in it.
